Beth Ann's Story

School After high school I moved from Waxahachie, along with my parents and brother, and went to community college then to Texas Women's University in Denton. I graduated with a BS in Interdisiplinary Studies specializing in Early Childhood. After teaching for 6 years in a private school, and trying Kindergarten and second grade in public school, I guess I was on my way to burn out! Even though I loved teaching and the kids, I decided to change directions and persue a Masters-PhD in Child Psychology at SMU - eventually having my own practice. That was a great plan until I was struck with health problems in 2000. It has been a long 5 years. In January 2001 I was diagnosed with a bladder disease called Interstitial Cystitis (IC)-depleated lining of the bladder with ulcerations, a disease of the urinary tract. There is no known cause or cure for now, but I hope to help change that. In June 2003 I started a support group/system - "IC Dallas", for those who suffer in the Dallas area. The rapid growth of membership has been pheonominal. I am still looking to finish my PhD, but now with my disease I...Expand for more
fight much chronic fatigue and discomfort, so my focus has shifted toward therapy for those with chronic diseases. Things have done a 180 from where my plans had me at 34 from the time I left Waxahachie. I have had to reprioritze everything and surpass the denial of having to deal with the pain this brings me everyday. But I am not letting it stop me. Good news is that after 2 1/2 years I married "the man of my dreams" on March 25, 2006. We plan to settle here in Plano, since he now practices at a Dallas law firm. If my health allows we hope to start a family soon! Despite my health problems, life is good and headed in a good direction.....finally!! Not having any "family" in Waxahachie anymore it has been hard to keep in contact with very many. I have been back to visit several times, and it would be nice to meet back up with classmates again. College I really enjoyed my years at TWU. I liked the "New England" feel from the campus. So manicured and taken care of. The small classes and caring administration really made a difference. Oh those magnolia trees by the library in the spring!!
